Fishing report for 5/21/2026
Another week has come and gone. Memorial day weekend is upon us and so is the bad weather it brings sadly. But fish are already wet, they don't mind the rain.
Back bay has been a little slow, but still action. Fluke are being a little uncooperative. Water temps are still on the low side which is holding the big fish in but you have to find them. Bigger gulp like 5 inch swim mullets, mackerel strips, squid, spot and minnows for bait. Striper are still in the rivers as well of loads of white perch. Eels, bunker, clam and bloods for bass, bloods or shrimp for perch. Bass are also around the bays holding deeper holes during the day. Big plastics, clam, eels or spot will get their attention. Inlets are still going strong with bass and blues. Plastics and plugs are the best choice day or night, any bait seems to only attract sand sharks. Bridges at night are all plastics especially 5 inch paddle tails. Seen some pictures floating around of a few sheepshead being caught, fingers crossed they show soon. Some blues are still trickling in the bays and causing some havoc for anglers. Blue claws have been getting much better in the bay and rivers.
Surfside has seen action, and its only getting better. Bass have been at the north end all on lures again plastics and plugs. South end has been more bait clams and bunker especially with some drum and blues hitting as well. Midtown seems to be more sharks but might get lucky with a bass. Kingfish have started on bloods but action is slow. Out front seabass and ling have been decent. Some good day some bad per the norm. Seems to be a deeper reef fishery right now as the water continues to warm up.
Thanks again to Liam for sending in this beautiful fish that was safely released. He has been absolutely killing it lately!
