Fishing report for 06/28/26

Little late on the report this time due to the hecticness off summer and well fishing being kind of the same. Fishing has been a little tough but seems like a break is coming. Drastic water temp changes have caused some really slow fishing.

Back bay action has been off to say the least. Dramatically drastic changes in water temps have been putting catching to a screeching halt at times. Seems to be the first and last hour of tides that have been producing. Deeper the better for fluke with most the reports in the bay. Slowly bouncing gulp is key and best bait by far has been mackerel. Some micro seabass and sandsharks have flooded the bays, Big sting rays are showing as well. Striper mainly night time around the bridges and piers. Boat wise drift eels and spot, throw plastics at the light line. Land and pier based stick to soft plastics at night. Rivers are still producing perch as always on shrimp or bloods. Trigger have started pretty decently. Mainly the rocks and the bridges. Sheepshead has been getting better day by day.

Beach side has been starting to get a little better. North end is holding a few fluke on gulp. Center of town to south end is more spot and kings on bloods. Some brown sharks are showing up during the day and more so at night on mackerel or bunker.

Wrecks and reefs have been pretty hit or miss. Seabass dropped to a one fish limit but are still pretty prominent especially 80-100 feet of water. Fluke are holding sporadically on the reefs but its very day to day. Heard find smaller pieces of structure and you are better off. Bigger gulp and mackerel as per normal.

Gotten some bluefin and yellowfin reports within the last week. Bluefin have been coming in pretty close within 5 miles, trolling and bally have been hitting. Yellowfin have been more 30 plus miles.

James (who is 5 and a half years old) came in with his mom and grandmother last week and rented a rod. Asking for advice on where to go and what to use. So they were sent to the piers with mackerel. Right before the return of the rod James decided to hook this beauty of a fluke, coming in at 19.5 inches and weighing in at 2.44lbs! Congrats James! Hope you enjoyed your vacation.
