Fishing report 2/4/23

Normally this time of year we are pulling our hair out in boredom with horrible weather. Boy this year is different! We have had some cold days but water temp has been staying up. With the cold snap hitting now, it will give way to another warm break with water temps skyrocketing.

First up we have to cover the absolutely incredible perch fishing that's happening. This winter has by far been the best perch action we have ever seen. Usually if you don't have a boat you cant find them, not this year. Personally I have only been fishing from land and every spot I have been, has had nonstop action. Game preserves in Tuckahoe and Corbin city are great spots as long as they are open for use. Aside from that you have the Old section of Beesly's Point bridge on the Somers Point side, Jeffers Landing, Corbin City Park and Gibson's Creek boat ramp to name a few spots. Rig wise I like to use 1/0 Seabass rigs with a baitholder hook. Best bait by far has been shrimp but they have been hit or miss to find. Bloods work as well but most shops do not carry them this time of year. We are currently selling 1/2 pint bags of vacuum sealed perch minnows, they are frozen live and really hold up well.

Tog fishing is still going strong. Hearing tons of incredible stories from Starfish Boats. This past weekend they topped out with Tog up to 17lbs. This time of year normally you have to travel 20+ miles to find them, we have been hearing tog 4-5 miles off the beach. Tog Season runs till the end of February, so get out while you can!

Also don't forget to renew your fishing registration! NJ saltwater Registry is only good for the calendar year and needs to be renewed every year. You can sign up or renew any registration here.
