Fluke Report for opening day 2025!

This is the fishing report for opening day of Fluke season 2025 (day after)! Fluke season decided to come in with a ton of rain and wind, why wouldn't it lol. But there is still a promising report ahead. Can only get better from here. With everything in this report keep in mind our fishing has been highly affected by water temp, average 8-12 swing
Fluke is obviously off to a slow start with the weather but got some decent reports yesterday which makes me believe by the weeks end it should be great. Fluke have been in deeper water on incoming tides and shallow on the outgoing. Mackerel and gulp this time of the year is usually the ticket. Guys who found clean water yesterday said that minnows was best. Decent amount of 17-17.5 inch fish with some very nice keepers.
For the rest of the back bay report there is quite a bit to talk about. Tog season has ended and we are sad that it did, honestly one of the best springs we have ever seen. That pushes us to the bass, They are plentiful in the back...as long as you can find them. Day time seems to be still in the inlets on small plastics, most of those fish are 18 inches and under. During the day up the river is still pretty hot. Plastics on the sod banks and bait in the deep. Eels, clams and bloods have still been consistent with some pretty big fish being caught. Night time in the inlets and around the bridges seems to be the big fish time. Mostly on plastics and hard baits in dark colors, with some being caught on live eels from the boats. Bluefish have been spotty. They are coming in and out fast so when you hit them enjoy them. Plastics and hardbaits in the inlet are best but mackerel or mullet is a great second. To the next point if you throw bait in the inlet be prepared for sandsharks. This is their spawn month so the big girls are here and get ready for a whooping.
Surf side haven't heard a lot near the jetties, farther south you go the better. Seen a couple bass and drum caught in the 50's but Strathmere and Sea Isle City have been the hot zone. Seeing and hearing big bass and big drum daily on clam. Lots of 40 plus inch bass and lots of drum over 10lbs. Hearing some whispers of kingfish in the surf which is right on time for the early run of the bigger kings.
Thank you to Allen Fenimore who is becoming my regular fishing report picture. He reported lots of shorts and 2 decent keepers one being over 3lbs. He also said he left many big fish on the bottom because he couldn't win the battle.
